Kyrie Irving‘s status for the remainder of the season is uncertain, as the Brooklyn Nets star reportedly could undergo surgery on his injured right shoulder.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Irving is “likely” to have a procedure done and expected to miss an extended period of time.

Charania added the “expectation” is Irving will have to miss the remainder of the regular season.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Malika Andrews, Irving is expected to make a decision about surgery “in the next few days.”

Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson announced earlier this week that Irving was going to be out indefinitely after reaggravating his shoulder injury.

Irving previously missed 25 straight games from Nov. 16 to Jan. 10 because of an impingement in his right shoulder. The six-time All-Star explained last month what he was experiencing while trying to get back on the court.

“It’s very unique,” he told reporters. “It’s the first time I’ve ever had such a significant feeling in my shoulder where I’m going up to shoot jump shots and I can’t really lift my shoulder.”

In nine games after returning, Irving was playing his best basketball of the season. He averaged 26.0 points and 5.4 assists per contest with a 53.0 shooting percentage and 49.0 percent from three-point range.

Irving last played on Feb. 1 against the Washington Wizards. The Nets (25-28) still have 29 games remaining in the regular season. They won seven of their last 10 games before the All-Star break and currently own the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference.
